A little bit about me. My name is Marty Martin. I also go by Warren, and my grandkids call me Pop Pop.
On March 15th, 2022, a new chapter of my life unexpectedly started when I had a stroke.
One of the earlier chapters of my life started when I was around six years old when my parents divorced. After the divorce my mother swooped me up and took me to Ireland for four years, from 1962 to 1966. We lived in a thatched roof house. We returned to the United States to New York City where I attended St. Stephens of Hungary elementary school and Power Memorial Academy high school and joined the Army in 1975.
During 21 years of service I was in the infantry, military police and caught the bug to jump out of perfectly good airplanes “Paratrooper”. I also volunteered for special forces (Green Berets). During my time in the Army I met my wife Debbie and we had three great kids.
When I retired from the Army in 1996 I transitioned to business and later transitioned to teaching and earned an MBA and Ph.D. in Business Administration. I am member of numerous writing organizations and the current President of the Missouri Writers’ Guild and past President of the St. Louis Publishers Association.
In 2012 another chapter in life presented itself with the arrival of the first grandson Dean, who I dubbed as Grandman Dean. The second grandson, Grandman Levi arrived four years later, all of which sparked starting a children's book series “Adventures with Pop Pop” based on my adventures with my Grandmen. In 2023 there was another grand blessing with the arrival of a grand daughter Mirielle.
What’s Next?
With the stroke life changed. I was and still am blessed to have the support of Debbie, my family, and friends, and have the faith and spiritual guidance that has provided me the strength to persevere and work through the stroke recovery and rehabilitation process. Furthermore the experience has provided me with the opportunity and calling to share my experiences and provide stroke victims and their families with first hand information on what to expect during rehabilitation. My hope is to inspire, provide a positive outlook, and insights to navigate through recovery, and realize that “there is life after a stroke”.
